Rotary Check Presented to Lompoc Unified School District
The Rotary Club of Lompoc presented a check for $18,000 to the Lompoc High School Science Technology and Robotic Systems (STaRS) Academy. The check was presented to Steve Straight, LUSD Board President and John Galisky, Coordinator STaRS Academy by Ed Schuler, Rotary President on May 26, 2015 during the school board meeting.
The funds will be used to purchase a FANUC Robotics Training Package, which includes a robotic arm and programing module. The arm will feed raw stock into a computer numerical controlled (CNC) milling machine where it can be fabricated into usable parts. It will provides an avenue for students to obtain certification in using and programing the equipment. FANUC America Corp. is a major worldwide manufacturer of factory automation equipment and certified operators are in high demand. This equipment increases productivity, quality and safety in the manufacturing environment.
This is the culmination of a year of discussion and work between the Rotary Club and the STaRS Academy. It is the major fruit of our Wine Tasting & Auction fundraiser held this past February by the Rotary Club of Lompoc. Each year our club selects a major community project to support. Discussions of this project began more than a year ago when Ed Schuler was one of the mentors of the STaRS program. With the help of fellow Rotarians and community members, we made it happen. Thank you.
