Reverence
I loved the prayer and pledge that Jim provided for the club a few weeks ago. It seems that each club member brings their unique perspective to this function. There have been some folks that have expressed a desire for more reverence for the occasion. I believe that folks need to step up and volunteer to do the prayer and pledge if they want it to be done in some other way--be the change you want to see in the world. I encourage and support those of you who do volunteer to be mindful of members with more pious sensibilities. Just so we are all clear on the expectation, there is no need for the rest of the members to make any comments before/during the prayer, silence is sufficient.
Induction
We welcomed our newest member, Jaime Marks Rodriguez, last week. I have had a lot of good experiences as Rotary President, but bringing Jaime into the club tops them all. We look forward to her joining our festivities and fun each week. Thanks to Bob for being her sponsor and to Ray for providing her orientation.
Guest Speaker
Mayor John Linn gave us his State of the City talk, summarizing his past years' accomplishments and things yet to be done. First is economic development for our city, entering his office with a hundred things for the city staff to do. I especially like the plug for SpaceX. He continues to reach out to community organizations in his effort to transform the city and I am proud to say that our club has responded very generously and effectively.
Thank you (Rotary) for all that you do.
He needs 3 Lompoc residents to join a single purpose committee to provide recommendation for the old swimming pool building. Please go to City Hall to sign up.
Missed Meetings
FYI. When you missed a meeting and take an online eClub One session or attend another Rotary club meeting, you are absolved of the missed meal fine and any additional fine I may levy when you return.
Valentine's Dinner
Our next meeting is our annual Valentine's Dinner at the Embassy Suites, 6 pm. Come with your sweetheart and dress to impress.
