A bi-partisan bill, signed by Governor Brown in 2017, permits cities and counties, by ballot initiative, to create a commission to make the 2020 redistricting decisions. The commissioners would be independent. They would be selected by a random drawing of names.
The County Counsel has approved the ballot initiative language. To qualify for the ballot, 11,500 signatures are needed.
Come to this evening's meeting to learn more about this initiative and the impact it could have in our local community.
